One Love is a picturebook adapted by Cedella Marley from the song by Bob Marley. The book is illustrated by Vanessa Brantley-Newton.
The plot of the story is fairly straightforward– a little girl organizes her community to clean up a park, which they name “One Love Park.” The story is told primarily in the pictures, as the only words in the book are the lyrics of Bob Marley’s famous song.
I’d been collecting “musical” picturebooks lately and this book definitely fits the bill. It also works well with my latest theme of diversity in picturebooks– look at all of the different faces and cultures represented in this community!
Here’s the book trailer for One Love, which gives a great feel for the images and rhythm of the story– I think you’d have to play the song for kids before reading this book to them!
